5 Seconds of Summer released their first single of Sounds Good Feels Good titled “She’s Kinda Hot” on July 17th, 2015, with the music video released in August on that year. Co-written by Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford, the song spread a message against the affects that society has had on today’s youth; teaching a lesson to their fans around the world.

From first listening to the track, you can tell this song is definitely meant for dancing to when you’re in the mood. But do you really know the song’s meaning? This verse represents someone who has dropped out of school and sees no point in attending 3 hour lectures everyday, when he feels like he doesn’t learn anything. His parents don’t see any hope for him now that he’s dropped out, hence calling him a ‘slob’.

Even though he’s now a college dropout, there’s still a future for him. He’s still got potential to achieve whatever dreams he has, regardless if he’s in school or not. What this means is that yes, education is important but that doesn’t mean you have to attend school to achieve success. It’s a quality that you should have, but it’s not mandatory.

You don’t have to be in college or university to achieve greatness; don’t be discouraged because you’ve realized that going to school isn’t for you and that you won’t be successful in life; that you don’t have potential to achieve great things. You will; you just have to work hard and continue to believe in your dreams.

As long as you believe in your dreams, they will remain alive and achievable.

The chorus says a message against this generation and society. In this generation, it’s basically a dog eat dog world, where there are people who think they are superior to others (aka people who think they’re better than everybody else). The chorus speaks against this by saying that being an ‘outcast’ is okay.

The leaders of the ‘not-coming-backs’ and the kings and queens of the ‘New Broken Scene’ is a movement 5SOS has created that states that this is something more than music, it’s about achieving greatness and being one big family; we’re all in this together. You are not alone in this great big world of fear, danger, and violence. You have a home; a safe haven and that is the New Broken Scene.

You are a leader of this revolution that has turned into something great; that spreads love and positivity. The New Broken Scene sheds light in this sea of darkness.

Sometimes I’m feeling like I’m going insane. My neighbour told me that I got bad brains, but I’m alright though. Yeah, we’ll be alright though. ‘Cause we’re the kings and the queens of the new broken scene, and we’re alright though.

There will be days where you feel like you’re going crazy and that you’re not in the place you think you should be in, but that’s okay. You have enough strength inside you to pick yourself up and dust yourself up, that’s what this verse represents.

You may feel like you’re in a dark place, like you’re going insane, and like you’re the dumbest person on the planet right now but you’re more than the negative things that you think describe you. You are greater, stronger, wiser, and smarter than you think you are.

Either there are people or there will be people who will constantly put you down and underestimate you, your job is to ignore it. Your job is to block those people out. Your job is to continue believing that you are greater than people think you are.

Again, you are a leader of a huge revolution that spreads love and positivity. You are a leader of a revolution that recognizes the good and not the bad in people. You are a leader of a revolution that helps and guides others to success and achieving their dreams.
